PREDICT™ Medical

Decision Support for Screening, Targeting and Proactive Management of Patient Health Issues

Predict is the market leader in point of care chronic disease discovery and management solutions. The platform provides support to medical practioners and patients at the point of care by linking the best known clinical management to a patient's specific problem and provides on-going care management tools.

PREDICT CVD-Diabetes recently won the Innovation of the Year award from TUANZ. The award was selected by the judges from TUANZ from an overall selection of 48 finalists and reflects the innovative approach of PREDICT to improving the health of all New Zealanders.

PREDICT™ is an innovative platform that provides support to medical practitioners and patients – at the point of care – by linking the best-known clinical management to a patient’s specific problem.

By facilitating the translation of clinical information (e.g. guidelines, protocols) into patient-specific actions and recommendations delivered at the point of care, PREDICT enables end-users to deliver disease-specific, patient-focused care.

The PREDICT platform features excellent scalability and represents a significant technological advance by using scenario-based knowledge representation, innovated by Enigma. This robust methodology models decision making by applying pattern-matching techniques to patient scenarios or states, rather than using algorithms.  Among it many advantages are speed, flexibility and simplified content management.

The PREDICT platform comprises a number of integrated components which, together, provide the enterprise-level capability sought by customers:

  • Tools for knowledge management; scenario creation and content updating
  • Tools for knowledge delivery; the powerful PREDICT engine
  • Tools for quality assurance; knowledge integrity

In response to customer demand, Enigma currently has three main areas of focus:

  • chronic disease management (heart disease and diabetes)
  • inpatient safety (DVT prophylaxis and management)
  • health risk assessment.

PREDICT acts as an “intelligent tool” that goes beyond even the most sophisticated search engine.  It focuses directly on the clinical problem being addressed by bringing together the most pertinent information from wide range of options available and links the best-known clinical management to a patient’s problem.

Developed in 2000 by a team of clinical and medical technology experts, PREDICT has been tested and successfully implemented in New Zealand since 2002. On the basis of this early promise, PREDICT was introduced to a number of US health systems in 2004.
